Church Burning

Neighborhood kids cross Fenkell Avenue in front of St. Christine's former church and parish hall. click photo above to go to Archdiocese article on Church arson A charred statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, originally in a side chapel of the church, lies on the floor of the sacristy of the closed St. Christine Church on Detroit's west side.
Detroit – It saddens a community when a parish is closed. And to have a closed church fall prey to arson and apparent sacrilege only adds to the heartbreak. But that's what happened at the former St. Christine Church on the west side of Detroit on April 20. When an unknown arsonist or arsonists broke into the church building, lit a fire and burned a portion of the church and a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, they appeared to have done as much damage to the hearts of long-time parishioners as they did to the building.

"It made me feel really bad and pretty disgusted that somebody would do something like that to us," she said. "We have a soup kitchen, all the outreach programs, and I'm just disgusted that someone could do this."

"It's between whoever did it and God," said Perry. "They have to answer to God.… I pray for them."

LETS START MAKING SENSE

Lou Dobbs says funding half a fence along a small portion of the U.S.-Mexico border isn't going to cut it.
I wish our government acted more sane. Like illegal immigration; they don't "want to be Americans," when they cross the southern border, they are economic refugees. There is little that can be done except to provide economic aid to Mexico. We are on the other side of the globe with all our military might and funneling gobs of money into Iraq, and Halliburton, while the pressing nature of this invasion here gets bandied about like a ping pong ball. The politicians who want to alter the status quo and offer another status to illegals are dead wrong. That happened in 1986 when Reagan signed an "immigration reform" bill that was a green light-y'know... "KEEP COMING." According to MSNBC, a million individuals cross the Mexican border annually. While the hubbub of the recent firing of US Attorneys continues to simmer, it is revealed that immigration crimes are not pursued until an individual is caught in the US illegally for the sixth to eighth time usually. The bulk of US attorneys fired were from southwestern states. Marijuana Reform

Baseball Season

Hank Aaron-home run king
It's hard to believe baseball season is upon us; but with the elongation of the season of every sport where another dollar may be gotten, perhaps less so. The issue this year is the breaking of the all-time home run record by Barry Bonds. This is a travesty; but, while so much in sport is a travesty; seasons too long; all night games in World Series; Super Bowl in February...it may be the first incident in a while to spur official action, while anything supported by greed is O.K.

Patient Care

We have all been disappointed and horrified by the reports of the condition of the housing facility for outpatients on the campus of the Walter Reed Army Hospital. It blends right in with the rest of the irrational conduct of the Iraq military operations. It has been a horror to our sensibilities. There is growing unison in asking "When and how will it end?" For those who cling to a happy ending scenario; I say "Wake up!" The sooner it ends the better will be our ability to function in the Middle East. McCain may be correct, when he says we are several thousands of men short of being able to call the shots in Iraq. Yet the longer it drags on and if it gets bloodier, any victory will be ashes in our mouth. The administration relied on our desire for retribution following 911.It is coming out that he had cooked thisup before the terror attacks. One can only believe that this had to do with the conspiring to harm his Daddy. That threat, they managed to foil. We are in a quandary a hundred times worse than Viet Nam, simply because Viet Nam exists in our frame of reference. No amount of gainsaying will make the pill easier to swallow; that the nation was led into a no-win situation. We are alienating our Sunni partners, the flow of oil is still less than optimum, there is little to point to that can be painted in a positive light; some among the Iraqis are playing Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. The amount of violence Iraq is become inured to is phenomenal; and has been ongoing and will continue regardless of our egress from its borders. It is almost as though Bush wanted to bloody his army to a consequential degree as Commander in Chief, to show he isn't a pussy and avoided going overseas in 1968 for manly reasons. It is a horror show and needs mental health training to analyze it. The people have spoken, some would say, when voters reinstalled a Democratic majority in Congress. And some in Congress are attempting to find a way for an old dog to display its teeth. All the crosstalk going on about using funding as leverage, with the obvious pitfall of seeming not to support the troops, is nauseating, even while it is a vast improvement to the almost unanimous lockstep agreeableness that launched the invasion. Regardless of what the man says, Bush's stated goal of erecting a liberal republic was and remains a pipe dream,

WAR IS OVER

The war in Iraq has been over for a while. This is occupation and will go on as long as W is in office. Rebuilding WTC should be done by now. Do what you can for your brother sister.
